Cumbrian sailor turns pro yacht master just at 18

Recently, a Cumbrian sailor has become a pro yacht master at the age of 18, scoring him one of the youngest person ever to do that. Dominic Jackson is depicted as a natural sailor by his family members and he is celebrating the accomplishment after finishing a grueling 18 week course on the island of Cumbrae, Scotland.

Dominic born with only one hand and this is why he is registered disabled. He sailed throughout the night up east coast of Isle of Bute with 2 others to achieve the title. While on board, the Cumbrian sailor had to purely depend on his skills as well as calculation as no tech help was allowed.

He has sailed since he was 10 years old. And, the youngster is now set for a life on seas after he qualified as a skipper. Rod Smith, Cumbrae’s pro yacht master instructor, told that to pass this course aged 18 is very unusual as the course is very intense and it involves all aspects of learning – starting from skippering a boat, to theoretical elements, like meteorological testing and navigating.

He added that Dominic was an exceptional candidate and they applaud him on his achievement. Passing this aged 18 is pretty much as young as you can get.
Chris Jackson, Dominic’s father, spoke quite proudly of his son. He said that his son has worked very hard and his qualification is really an extraordinary achievement, mainly for someone who is that young.
