I suggest you get in touch with paul himself, he’ll be able to answer your questions better than myself: paularsen1 is his youtube channel, or contact him on vestassailrocket website all I can say is that the reduction of drag is EVERYTHING on a boat that sails at speeds in excess of 120 Km/h why do you reckon he doesn’t have soft sails? because they would increase the drag coefficient of the rig…even the hull is pointing in the apparent wind direction: to reduce drag

  2. I don’t understand that. Isn’t the positive drag making the boat move at first?
    So why is more drag not good for more speed?
    Can’t he create more lift by increasing the surface of the body of the boat itself?

  3. definitely not, at those speeds it’s all about low drag, not much about a lot of sail area, keep in mind that the whole rig is probably around 300 Kg + the pilot, so you really don’t need that much sail area to have the thing go like stink
